Contenuti | 1.

Course objectives | We aim to give the students the essential knowledge about structure and function of genes and their various mechanisms of regulation in Prokaryotic and Eukaryotic cells. Students will learn the theoretical basics of molecular biology techniques to investigate and manipulate genes with the goal to form a dental medical doctor that could, one day, take advantage of modern molecular approaches to cure patients. At the end of the course students will be able to understand the main molecular mechanisms responsible for the organization and expression of genes of various organisms. They will also understand the bases of recombinant DNA technology and methods for molecular biology analysis. With the goal to use, eventually, molecular approaches for their profession. |
Prerequisites | n the previous year the student must have acquired a good study methodology and an adequate self-assessment capacity |
Teaching methods | Main lectures with PPT and high interaction with students (questions/answers) for at leat 50 hours. Additional "problem solving" sessions can follow. Presence to lessons is mandatory following the rules of all courses |
Evaluation methods | Oral examination. The exam will be supported by several teachers. The final grade will represent the average of the votes given by each teacher |
Other information | The course is organized in only one semester: November - January. |
